The Chinese Government Friendship Award

Fifty foreign experts from 21 countries received this year’s Friendship Award – China’s highest honor granted to a foreigner – for their contribution to the nation’s development. Vice-Premier Ma Kai conferred the medals on the recipients at an award ceremony on Friday 29 September in Beijing. Among the fifty winners was our co-worker Eckehard Scharfschwerdt, a medical doctor from Germany, who worked for 15 years in the poverty-stricken areas of Southwest China’s Yunnan Province as a doctor and helped training local medical workers before he returned to his motherland last year.
