- Objectives
The objectives of MSI medical program are to place medical long-term workers and bring in short-term medical teams to work together with local health authorities and medical institutions to:
- upgrade the medical knowledge and skills of healthcare professionals
- improve the delivery of healthcare services
- equip local hospitals with needed equipment
- develop healthcare services relevant to the local community
Through these partnerships with local institutions, it is hoped that local healthcare workers are encouraged in their professional service to work with pride and integrity.
- Introduction
Medical work (including dentistry) was first offered by MSI when it was founded in 1994. It was later expanded into Yunnan province in 1996 and Chongqing municipality in 2000. Through discussions with local health authorities and institutions, relevant medical models for each site were identified, such as a rural community health model in Daliangshan in Sichuan and an urban model in Kunming, Yunnan.
- Current Projects
Existing projects include:
- MSI Good Bridge Cooperative Center (GBCC) - an urban model of a training center for medical and dental professionals providing dental services, organizing conferences, conducting research and teaching medical English
- Operation Eyesight (OE) - a program dedicated to restoring sight to those blinded by cataracts
- Resuscitation and Trauma Courses with emphasis on skills acquisition and team work
- Hospital-based medical specialties: Emergency Medicine, Paediatrics, Neonatology, Cardiology, ENT, Cleft Surgery, Orthopaedics, Endoscopy, Laparoscopic surgery, Urology, Pathology, Physical Therapy, etc.
- Medical student elective program.

MSI is cooperating with different Medical universities/college and hospitals in Yunnan, Chongqing and Sichuan.
