- Objectives
By placing long-term English teachers and bringing in short-term English teams, we aim to work together with local education authorities and institutions to:
- upgrade the English knowledge and skills of postgraduate, graduate, middle school, medical and public health school students;
- improve students' conversational English;
- enable local English teachers to improve their language proficiency and teaching skills;
- build good relationship with local communities.
- Introduction
In June 1996, MSI sent its first Medical/English team to the Sichuan Public Health School in Xichang and placed three full-time English teachers in Sichuan province. The English program has since been expanded into Chongqing municipality in 2001 and Yunnan province in 2004. Through discussions with local education authorities and institutions, relevant English programs for each site have been identified and training courses have been developed for both teachers and students in rural communities in Sichuan as well as urban communities in Chongqing.
- Current Projects
Long-term teaching placements:
- Universities: basic and advanced writing and conversational English, English Literature, communication skills, research and writing skills for postgraduates
- Public Health Schools: medical English, general proficiency especially conversational English.
- Secondary Schools: basic writing and speaking skills which are part of the national curriculum
- Kindergartens: Kindergarten management and teaching
Short-term programs:
MSI organises short-term courses lasting from 5 days to one month in different institutions such as:
- Universities: English courses for under-graduates, graduate students, and medical professionals
- Public Health Schools: General and medical English courses for graduating students
- Middle Schools: English enrichment classes for junior and senior middle school students.
- Teach-the-Teacher Workshops: to help local English teachers upgrade their proficiency and teaching skills.
- English Kids Camp: through interactive activities and games to improve children's oral English.
- Current Sites / Partnering Institutes
MSI cooperates with different universities, colleges, public health schools and middle schools in Yunnan, Chongqing and Sichuan. We also partner with education bureaus in different provinces and government bodies at different levels.
