- Objectives
We aim to demonstrate the love of Christ through an integrated community health development service, and empower locals to undertake responsibility for their health care. To this end, MSI aims to support local government to:
- improve and upgrade the rural county hospital service through long-term working relationships
- improve the rural village health service
- improve maternal/child health service
- reduce the prevalence of TB in endemic areas
- improve personal hygiene of villagers and decrease related infectious diseases
- promote environmental protection through biogas and safe water projects
- promote AIDS/HIV education and prevention
- help marginalized groups e.g. poor children and farmers
- encourage mutual understanding and appreciation among local and foreign students.
- Introduction
MSI launched its community health program in 1995 in cooperation with the Public Health Bureau, Sichuan Province, as a holistic approach to guide and strengthen community health services in southwestern China.
Community health is that part of medicine that deals with the health of the entire population and disease prevention. Through a community diagnosis, preventable or controllable diseases are identified and suitable programs can then be organized.
MSI's community health program aims at serving the poor, raising their awareness of healthcare, training them to be self-reliant in their own health needs, and improving their overall living standards.
The program also works towards providing a seamless continuity of service from in-patient to community care.
