Introduction

Kunming is a famous historical and cultural city in China established around 2400 years ago. Kunming's mild climate has earned it the name of 'Eternal Spring City'. It boasts tourist sites like the world famous "Stone Forest".

Kunming is the transportation, communication, education and political nerve center for Yunnan. The Kunming international airport is one of the largest in China, with flights to Thailand, Hong Kong, Korea, Singapore, Vietnam and Macao.

About the People

Of the 52 official minority groups in China, 26 are found in Yunnan. Kunming has a mixture of Han Chinese and many minority groups as well as many people from other provinces. Kunming's major industries are tobacco farming and tourism.

MSI's Work

MSI set up a Chief Representative Office in Kunming (KMG) for all of its Yunnan’s work in 2000. An international and inter-disciplinary team from Korea, Singapore, Malaysia, the United States and Hong Kong work together to host the Good Bridge Cooperative Center which functions as a training center for the Kunming work. Colleagues partner with locals in hospitals, clinics, medical schools and other institutions in training, supervision, and medical practice. This venue is also used for the exchange of knowledge and culture, and to provide services (medical, dental etc.) for the Chinese people. We have held dental, medical and rehab conferences, and taught English at the medical school and conducted research into oral diseases of Yunnan's minority groups.

Opportunities

Opportunities abound for long and short-term personnel in dental, medical, English teaching, project coordination, office administration, and organizational leadership. New doors are being opened in rehabilitative work among the disabled and community development work in outlying areas around Kunming. Do come and join the Kunming team!
