Introduction

Chengdu is the capital city of Sichuan province. The city measures 12,335 sq km with a population of 11 million, and is situated in a basin surrounded by high mountains, some over 7,500 meters high.

Since the Old Stone Age, people have settled exuberantly in this "Heavenly Country" or "Tien Fu Zhi Guo". The area was also the capital of "Shu" during the "Three Kingdoms" ("San Guo") period. With its long and rich history, Chengdu and its vicinity have many historical sites such as the renowned Wu Hou Temple, Du Fu Cottage, San Xing Mound Museum and Du Jiang Dam. The world-famous Jiuzaigou, a fairytale scenic land with multi-colored lakes, is a 10-hour drive away.
